“Begin as you mean to go on” is a phrase I’ve heard a lot the last few days; I sort of glazed over it, going, yeah yeah they say that every New Year… but then I stopped to think. And you know, there is some truth there.
New Year’s Day has historically been a less-than-great day for me; yesterday was no exception, with stuff going wrong from the time I woke up. And then I got sick.
I had two options: 1.) complain and let all the little stresses and problems add up to ruin my day, or 2.) fuck that and aim to be optimistic and make the day better.
I went with option 2.
This was circling around FB, and I love it. Because hell yeah! Enough wishy-washy waffling. Not everything in is in my control right now, but the stuff that is? I will do my best to make it awesome.
It’s working already: I determined today was going to be better, and it was so. (Thus sayeth the Merc.) There are many things I want to do, not just this year, but for the entire future.
Be more awesome.
Thank people who matter to me.
Write to the people whose work inspires and changes me, and tell them.
Be humble, be grateful, be joyful.
Watch more movies and read more fiction.
Be myself and build up the courage to express myself more, and better, and clearer.
I believe this is doable. Hard, yes, but possible and necessary and worthwhile.
We can all be more awesome.
Don’t wish it so. MAKE IT SO.
